http://www.Financial3dom.netWith the price of transportation escalating out of control many individuals are choosing to find a way to make money from home. With the daily commute, as much as two hours a day for some workers eliminated, they can more time to spend with their families at the end of the day and the extra money they save on fuel for their vehicle can go to help put food on the table. However, many have difficulty in figuring out the type of business they can succeed with as well as how to let the world know they have something to offer.
Words like marketing and advertising are bantered around in today's business culture, but except for a few, not many new business owners really understand the difference and even if they did, they likely could not come up with a good program to entice customers. It is not necessarily their fault, they are just too focused on their business and know too much about it to be able to explain what they sell or what they do to others. In many instances, they tend to provide way more information than their average customer needs to make an informed decision.
When it comes to operating your business, there probably is no one more knowledgeable about what you offer than you. This is as it should be, yet when it comes to explaining exactly what you do to other people, you likely tend to talk in the language of the industry. Except for others in the same industry, you may as well be talking a foreign language as the general public will not know, or care about all the industry-specific words you use to express what it is you do.
For example, when a customer finds an empty spot on a store's shelf and asks the business owner when they can expect to be able to buy it again, instead of explaining that the manufacturer has raised the price too high, has stopped making it or some other line to say it will not be back, they may say something to the effect that it is deleted item and you will not carry it anymore. The customers probably has no idea what it means to be a deleted item, except for that key on their computer keyboard and still does not understand why a favorite item will not longer be available to them.
Unless you are a computer expert, when you ask the computer repairman what is wrong with your computer, they will probably go down a road that is totally unfamiliar to you. All types of jargon will fall out of their mouth as they try to explain the cooling fan in your computer broke, causing it to overheat and burn out a bunch of other small parts.
When you are trying to explain what you do and what you offer, remember the audience and tailor your speech to terms they can understand. Dumbing down? No. Simply using a language that those unfamiliar with your industry can understand.
