It is recommended that people use the 24-hour rule before jumping into a business proposal, even with people you might know, including friends and relatives.
The first sign of a really bad business idea will be a rather lengthy sales pitch that never really says anything. Before clicking on the sign up now button at the bottom of the 20th page, think back about what you just read. In order to make money from an online business, you have to sell some type of product or service. Reread the sales pitch and if you cannot figure out what it is you are being asked to sell, close the page and move on. Even if there are specific products or services you will be promoting, consider who would want them, the price at which you will be selling them and are they real.
There is little question that information is big on the internet and many people are lining up with cash in hand to buy information. However, most will want information that will help them in some aspect of their life. Selling a book distributed only online advising people how to make money online does not have much of a following, even those books with the phrase "…For Dummies" in the title are an invitation to send money for something that common sense should make obvious.
Another hint that a proposal is a bad idea is the amount of money you will need to spend up front to become part of a professional organization. Franchising has been around almost forever, and there is a valid reason for companies to charge to become a qualified distributor for their company. They have a hefty investment in their operational game plan as well as the internet infrastructure for which investments in new distributors help offset. However, if the investment seems too high, you will want to research how much you can expect to make and how long it will take to earn your investment back before you start earning a profit.
Buying into the secrets of internet riches or learning how to crack the code of making money online are a couple of the more common approaches used by purveyors of really bad business ideas. These pitches will usually be accompanied by pictures of fancy house and cars, possibly even boats at a dock at some exotic island. If the pictures were not gleaned from a travel site, they were most likely staged and the person attempting to separate you from your money snuck into a high-end neighborhood and staged the pictures without the owner's consent.
Regardless of how good the proposal may seem and how honest the individual appears to present themselves, before signing up wait at least 24-hours before paying your money. Use this time for more research to make sure you are not paying for someone else to earn money on the internet at your expense.
